The Sudanese National Academy of Sciences (SNAS) proudly congratulates its distinguished member, Professor ElFatih Ali Babiker Eltahir, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, HM King Bhumibol Professor of Hydrology and Climate, and Director of the MIT–UM6P Research Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), for winning First Place in the 2026 Arab Water Council Award.
The Arab Water Council presented this prestigious award under the theme “Leading Climate-Resilient Water Management Systems, with a Special Focus on the Arab Countries.” The Council recognized Professor Eltahir’s outstanding scientific achievements and pioneering contributions to advancing resilient and sustainable water management. After a rigorous evaluation process, the Award Committee selected his research as the highest-ranked submission in the Fourth Cycle (2026).
The Arab Water Council announced the award during the closing session of the 7th Arab Water Forum, held on 1 July 2026 as part of Saudi Water Week at the Ritz-Carlton in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Professor Eltahir’s achievement demonstrates his global leadership in hydrology, climate science, and water resources engineering. Through his groundbreaking research, he continues to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges in water security and climate resilience while inspiring scientists, engineers, and policymakers across the Arab region and beyond.
