Seed Grant for New African Principal Investigators (SG-NAPI)

With support from the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), UNESCO-TWAS has launched a new programme to strengthen scientific and technological capacity in African countries lagging in these fields.

The programme targets early-career researchers who obtained their PhD abroad and have recently returned—or will soon return—to academic positions in their home countries. It provides grants for high-quality research projects conducted in eligible African countries, aligned with key disciplines and Germany’s High-Tech Agenda.

Fields covered: Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Information and Computer Technology, Mathematics, Medical Sciences, and Physics.

Eligibility criteria:

  • PhD required
  • Applicants must be early-career researchers
  • Age limit: 40 years
  • Open to SG-NAPI eligible countries
